The small team behind Telluride Angels includes two coordinators and a group of advisors. Together we evaluate and select which companies will present to the Telluride Angels and we coordinate the gatherings and activities of the group.
Len has been a life-long entrepreneur focused in the Internet tech space. In the 90's he started a company called ApplyYourself, a SaaS admissions and enrollment management system for colleges and universities. He sold that business in 2007 to a subsidiary of the Daily Mail and moved to London to run a higher ed company in Europe for the Daily Mail. Upon his return to the States, Len and his family settled in Telluride where he is active in the tech startup world, serving as a mentor for the Telluride Venture Accelerator and Startup Next, an active angel investor and a consultant to tech startups.
Marc's work over the last decade has done more for entrepreneurs and startups than any other single effort. Marc is Founder and CEO of Startup Weekend which expanded in 2013 to UP Global, a world wide organization focused on helping entrepreneurs around the globe. In 2015 the organization was acquired by TechStars at which time Marc became the Chief Community Officer for all TechStars startup programs. Marc also serves as a mentor to the Telluride Venture Accelerator and organizes a local Telluride Entrepreneur Meetup group.
Jesse Johnson is the Co-founder and CEO of the Telluride Venture Accelerator. TVA focuses early-stage companies in outdoor recreation, travel, natural products, health, energy and water and is unique in that it is owned by a community foundation, the Telluride Foundation. Prior to TVA, Jesse co-founded and was CEO of Q Collection, a leading sustainable design company (now a part of Twill Textiles). He has been involved as a mentor and investor in several startup businesses and served on the board of two companies sold to a Fortune 50 company. He serves on the board of 1% For The Planet, Yale’s Center for Business and the Environment, and several others. Jesse has an MBA and MES (Environmental Science) from Yale and a BA from Princeton.
In 1980, Elliot co-founded the San Francisco law firm of Flynn & Steinberg, specializing in real estate, banking, venture capital and taxation. In addition to his law practice, Elliot also acted as General Counsel and Corporate Vice-President to Itel Corporation, a public company engaged in heavy marine construction, railroad operations, ship and container leasing. He is also a managing partner and General Counsel of GMG Securities, an asset management firm, as well as Vice-Chairman of European-American Securities, a private merchant Bank. In 2013, Elliot became a founding partner of the Telluride Venture Fund LP, a partnership formed to speed development and commercialization of paradigm shifting seed in early-stage technology companies primarily in the Southwestern United States (the “Colorado Plateau”), with an emphasis on outdoor recreation, tourism, natural products, health , energy, water and education.
Jack’s experience is in sales, financial and general management. Initially with Monarch Systems (major account sales), Bank of America (domestic and international corporate lending), the MW Kellogg Company (Asst. Treasurer), Results Consulting Group (Managing Director), SVP First Interstate System, Inc., EVP & COO First Interstate Bancard Company. CoFounder and CEO of Integratec Corporation, a credit card back-office service company that raised $32M from private equity and venture funds. Chairman and CEO of CBR Information Group, a provider of credit information services to government and corporate clients. When CBR was sold, he started angel investing in the Silicon Valley area. He is a partner in Tuputele Ventures and is a limited partner in several venture funds based in the Silicon Valley and China. Current direct angel investments include: WhiteHat Security, SwitchFly, AGIS, SouthBay Resources Canada and AppMed. Jack is a graduate of CCNY and has an MBA from the Marshall School of the University of Southern California and is a full-time Telluride resident.
